This course aims to introduce the phenomenon as well as the mechanisms of Epigenetics in both mammal and plant system.

Introduction—Epigenetic Overview
DNA methylation and genome defense
RNAi and heterochromatin
Evolution of mammalian epigenetic control systems
Epigenetics and development
Epigentics and human disease
X-inactivation
Genomic imprinting in mammals
Genomic imprinting in plants

課程目標
Course description: This graduate course aims to introduce basic epigenetic concepts and research techniques available to address epigenetic questions in mammals as well as other organisms. Students are expected to develop the ability to critically evaluating and interpreting published research articles. They will also learn to extract information from international conferences by listening to experts of each field introducing their research (as in the CD-ROM).

Students will be divided into 3 groups for three selected topics. The presenting group need to summarize the selected original papers and present/defend in a journal club format. Students in the presenting group will share the same mark. The students from the 2 non-presenting groups are responsible for asking questions and be marked by the quality and quantity of the questions.
